Gaven OSHC

Location

YMCA Gaven OSHC is situated at Gaven State Primary School.  The YMCA of Brisbane commenced management of the Gaven service in 2004.  Our room is situated at the back of the school and best accessed via the second school carpark - look out for the big YMCA sign.

Staff

The Gaven OSHC staff team is comprised of a permanent Coordinator, Linda, an Assistant Coordinator, Kathleen, and a number of dedicated casual Assistants.  All staff hold a current Blue Card and First Aid Certificate.  Most team members hold or are studying towards a childcare, education or sport and recreation qualification.  All staff have participated in the YMCA of Brisbane's Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy training.  YMCA OSHC staff understand the need to be caring and professional at all times while maintaining a sense of fun. 

Licensing

The Office for Early Childhood Education and Care have licensed YMCA Gaven OSHC for 60 children.

Active After School

Gaven is one of many YMCA OSHC services who participate in the Active After School Communities project implemented by the Australian Sports Commission.  The Active After School project gives services the opportunity to contract outside providers to deliver instruction to the children encouraging them to participate in physically active games and sports.  Gaven OSHC generally integrates two Active After School sessions into the weekly program.

Meals

Tasty and nutritious snacks are provided by YMCA Gaven OSHC for breakfast and afternoon tea.  YMCA OSHC services follow the Smart Choices (Healthy Food and Drink Supply Strategy for Queensland Schools) guidelines when planning and preparing meals and cooking experiences.  During Vacation Care children should bring their morning tea, lunch and drink bottle.  Click here to view a sample Menu.
