Extremes at Dutton Park

YMCA Dutton Park OSHC really embraced the Holiday Club theme of YMCA Extreme. On this day the children were given the opportunity to pick their own activity and they selected – Mega Box Creations. Previously when making box creations the children have collaborated to create a giant dragon, spider, robot, octopus, and snake. This time however the children voted and decided to create a giant ladybug. The children split up into three teams, each with a responsibility for a certain part of the ladybug body. The children had to work together to design the ladybug, and, eventually, using only boxes, tape, scissors and paint, the ladybug was born.

Johnny the Jester visits Hilder Rd

Johnny the Jester visited YMCA Hilder Rd OSHC for a Holiday Club incursion.  Both staff and children agreed that he was very entertaining. His magic tricks were amazing and his antics were very funny, he had the kids laughing for the entire time. He also brought his pet bird, bunny rabbit and python. The python was the childrens’ favourite, and even left a lasting reminder of itself on the floor!

Rochedale South put on their dancing shoes

‘Wii’ have our game faces on!  The first week back at YMCA Rochedale South OSHC Holiday Club brought a day of fun and excitement  with the children having Nintendo Wii challenges! Even with only 4 controllers all the children got in and had a go at once having a ‘Who let the dogs out’ dance off. The Nintendo Wii is great for improving both fine and gross motor skills for school aged children.  Hmmm, I wonder if they have the ‘Nut bush’ for a ‘Staff vs. Children’ championship?

Perfect Puppetry at Rochedale South

The imagination of the children at YMCA Rochedale South OSHC ran wild when designing their puppets and dioramas this week.  Further developing cognitive, creative and fine motor skills the children blew us away with their creations!  The staff and children were able to enjoy several shows that the children created themselves.  Australia has some fine script writers and actors in the making!
