The first day of May is Replant Australia Day. YMCA Albany Creek OSHC thought they could help out by collecting seeds and pots that can be sent to the affected communities that were devastated in the recent floods that occurred in Queensland to help them re-grow. The service ran this in conjunction with Albany Creek State School.
A YMCA Strathpine OSHC family, while doing a little work online, stumbled across a Kelloggs promotion and passed the information on to staff at the service. Little did anyone know that one email to Kelloggs about the wonderful work YMCA OSHC do with healthy eating would result in 24 1kg bags of cereal arriving on the service doorstep. Not only have the children had wonderful breakfast, but some great Cornflake cookies to cook as well! Thank you Kelloggs!
YMCA Albany Creek OSHC celebrated Harmony Day on Monday 21st March. This year’s theme was 'Everyone Belongs'. As Harmony Day is about community participation, inclusiveness and respect – Albany Creek celebrated the different cultures that make Australia a great place to live. The children enjoyed making a wreath of friendship and colouring in peace symbols and making ‘Harmony’ badges and balloons.
As a follow on from their Active After School Communities activities the children at YMCA Strathpine OSHC participated in an art competition. The challenge posed to the children was to create a poster that promoted an active activity. While there were a number of awesome entries there were three children who did a particularly great job. Congratulations to Will (Karate), Jack (Soccer) and Ella (Snowboarding).
YMCA Albany Creek OSHC began their St Patricks Day celebrations early today with green pancakes and green milk for breakfast. Ethan certainly enjoyed the colourful change to breaky!
