The children at YMCA St Paul's OSHC have set themselves a goal to try and make 1000 paper origami cranes to display in their room. This all came about with one child's idea to teach the staff and some of the children at Before School Care how to make origami cranes. After making a few cranes the group thought 'How many can we make?'. One child suggested the group make 30, another said 100 however after looking up a little information on the crane and what they represent the group thought maybe they should try and aim to make 1000 cranes as this is quiet significant in Japan. According to Japanese legend, anyone who folds 1000 origami cranes will be granted a wish by a crane. The crane in Japan is one of the mystical or holy creatures, and said to live for a thousand years. So the staff and children all agreed that they would try and reach their goal of folding thousand origami cranes. Over the last week during Before and After School Care the children have been making their own origami paper by painting, marbelling, dying and stamping. So far they have made 200 origami cranes, only 800 left ... so send YMCA St Paul's OSHC (
