Recently all YMCA OSHC services received new digital cameras thanks to the Community Gambling Benefit Fund. With this great new piece of equipment YMCA Grovely OSHC decided to hold a photography competition. Over the past fortnight each child was asked to take three pictures: a self-portrait, their favourite person at YMCA Grovely OSHC and their favourite thing to play with. So far the children have had lots of different photos taken with lots of 'silly' faces. The photos are about to be printed and all of the children will get the chance to present their photos on a poster that will be displayed around our room.
The children at YMCA Strathpine OSHC have been having fun practicing their drawing skills with a 'Draw a Staff Member' competition. Fantastic drawings were submitted from children in Prep to Year 7 with three major winners being acknowledged. However everyone received a prize because the drawings were too good to pick from! The staff have laminated the children's pictures and created a display at the service to show all families and visitors the great talent at Strathpine OSHC.
YMCA Strathpine OSHC has been participating in the Active After School Communities (AASC) program throughout Term 3. The children have been enjoying little athletics and fitness sports. On a Wednesday the children are with AASC facilitator Katie, she has provided tug-o-war, group games, a skills coarse and much more. Thursdays see AASC facilitator Jen help the children to develop in athletic abilities with shot put, long jump, discus and running. Both the children and staff have enjoyed their extra active days this term.
YMCA Albany Creek OSHC asked families if they could donate items so the children could send care packages to the Australian troops who are serving overseas. Thanks to this generosity the children and staff were able to pack up 17 boxes crammed with donations ranging from magazines to Tim Tams. The children were excited to be involved in the process of packing all the items into the boxes that were kindly donated by the Post Office. Well done Albany Creek, we're sure the troops will appreciate your efforts. Did all the lollies make it into the boxes?
The children at YMCA Ashgrove OSHC regularly demonstrate their amazing imaginiation and creativity. The recent Winter Holiday Club was no exception. Evan (YMCA OSHC Assistant) was delighted with the sign the children made for the kitchen. Evan's culinary skills seem to be definitely appreciated by the children! Not to be outdone Kyle (Yr 5 student) excelled when he made a drum kit entirely out of construction equipment. We can't wait to see what you're going to come up with next Kyle!
